Serving

At HFC, we don't want service to be something extra we do just to feel good. We want to it to be at the core of who we are.

With this in mind, here are a few ways we have scheduled to serve:

 30-Hour Famine:  February 2009

Join the international youth movement to fight hunger. Next informational meeting is Tuesday, January 13th at 4pm in HUB 2nd floor lounge.  The actual 30-hour famine event will be Feb 27-28 (Fri-Sat).

-Summer Break: Building houses for those in need down in Mexico

During Summer Break we will be going to Tecate, Mexico (just across the US border, a little Southeast of San Diego) to build houses for/with people who don't have them. Also possibly doing some other forms of community outreach (like working with kids at a nearby orphanage. Why are we doing this you might ask? We are called to serve, in Matthew 25 Jesus says, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these
brothers of mine, you did for me".  Besides, when will there be a better opportunity to go, it's cheap, and why not? Serving not only changes the lives of those who are served, but those who do the serving, it is Awesome!

We will be staying at a Ranch that is a home base for many outreach groups in Baja Mexico. The facility has dorms with bunk beds, an eating area, bathrooms, showers, and even a small pool. You can check out the place we will be staying at http://www.rancholapaloma.org/
